Catskill Craftsmen has become the nation's leading manufacturer of ready-to-assemble domestic hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. Catskill Craftsmen manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily Northern Yellow Birch. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. The Microwave Space Saver Cart has a butcher block top with microwave shelf and an adjustable internal shelf. Comes with drawer and cabinet storage, locking caster wheels, nickel-plated towel bar and solid wood doors, drawer, tabletop, shelf, braces and legs. It has warp-resistant hardwood veneer side and back panels.

I really wanted to like this cart, and in fact I do, but it has one major and one minor flaw. The major flaw is the design of the top shelf assembly. It consists of two vertical side pieces with the top shelf resting on it, held together by two screws into each side piece, with another two screws holding the side pieces to the bottom piece. Assembled this way, any sideward force on the top half of the cart and it collapses like a house of cards. Ask me how I know...All that is necessary to fix it is to attach a thin piece of plywood across the back and the top part becomes rock solid. The thought of someone putting a good sized microwave - convection oven on the top and having the whole thing collapse, well simply not good. The second issue is their use of fiberboard pieces to screw the top and bottom parts together. Sideward forces on the top tend to push the top and bottom apart, and the screw heads were getting pulled into the fiberboard which loosens the connection between the top and bottom. If the cart got moved much the top and bottom could easily end up in two pieces, which again would be a bad thing. It was very easy to replace these two fiberboard pieces with two cut out of hardwood and now the connection between the top and bottom is secure.Considering the quality of the rest of the wood (very nice) and the otherwise nice design, it's a shame the manufacturer decided to cut these corners. I can't recommend it as-is unless you have access to tools and the time to modify it, but these problems should be easy enough to correct in manufacturing and then I could truly recommend this to anyone.

I got this cabinet to hold the microwave in my kitchen, provide a decent sized silverware drawer, and to provide an extra bit of counter space. This is one of the better built cabinets I looked at, and is of good construction. The drawer holds a full set of silverware, with room for other things. The towel bar is also handy. The unit was very easy to put together. I assembled it myself, with just a screwdriver and drill. It took a couple of hours, from unpacking to finished. There was a hole for the drawer that wasn't drilled out right, and I had to re-shape it to get the drawer assembled. There are two things that I am disappointed with about the cabinet. The first is that the top part could be a lot more sturdy if there was a cross bar or two on the back where the open space is. I will be adding cross bars so that the top doesn't become wobbly over time. The second thing is that the drawer is only held up by one wooden dowel. If it was on sliders, it would be much more sturdy and easy to slide in and out.
